My Artistic Process

My process begins with immersion in nature through walking, sketching, photography, and observation, absorbing the landscapes around me. Rather than creating direct representations of a place, I work intuitively to capture the feeling of being within it.

Back in the studio, I develop these impressions through expressive brushwork, layering of colour, building texture with mixed media, and balancing abstraction and representation. Creative play, experimentation, and spontaneity are central to my process, allowing forms and themes to emerge, and each painting to evolve naturally rather than being tightly predetermined.

Through my paintings, I offer the viewer a sense of place, allowing them to step into a moment, built from memory and emotional response, providing space for them to consider their own inner landscapes.

The Living Memories Collection

The Living Memories collection explores my emotional relationship between landscape, memory, and transformation. Through dynamic brushwork, layering of unapologetically bold colour, collage, and semi-abstract forms, the paintings capture fleeting impressions of places that feel both familiar and dreamlike. Moments suspended between remembrance and imagination.

Created during a period of personal transition and reflection, as the collection developed, it became a way of processing how memories of places that are important to us, stay with us emotionally long after we leave them behind, and how new places and experiences affect us as we adapt to growth and change in our lives.

Balancing energetic mark making with areas of stillness and atmosphere, Living Memories reflects on the way landscapes become intertwined with identity, emotion, and the stories we tell ourselves about who we are.

The Downs Collection

The Downs collection is a series of expressive landscape paintings inspired by the rolling hills, winding paths, and expansive skies of the English downlands on the South coast, where I grew up. Created between 2024 and 2025 using energetic brushwork and luminous colour, the works centre themes of renewal, belonging, and emotional connection to the landscape.

The collection emerged after my migration from the South of England to Hamburg, when distance gave me a new perspective on the landscapes that had shaped me.

Being away from the hills made me realise how deeply connected they had become with my identity, and how strongly I associated those open spaces with a sense of peace, freedom, and belonging. Leaning into abstraction, the paintings capture not only the physicality of the landscapes that shaped me, but the emotional pull of longing for places that feel like home.
